Richmond Schools Music Department
Mission Statement: We believe every student needs and deserves a high-quality music education. We strive to inspire each child to become a creative and innovative thinker, developing leadership and real-world skills in a supportive, student centered, family-like atmosphere. Our primary focus is reaching high levels of musical achievement and competence by providing students the essential skills that are critical to their success in school, life and work.
About us: Richmond High School is a MSBOA Class C high school situated in northern Macomb County, Michigan. With 500 students we have approximately 20% of the school involved in music. Click for Richmond Community School's website. The middle school is MSBOA Class D with 30% participating in music.
The choir program consists of two choirs: an audition all-women's SSA choir that meets zero hour and a SAB mixed choir that meets during the school day. Both groups are active participants in MSVMA performing at festivals and solo and ensemble. The choir program is also an active member throughout the community of Richmond providing community service and fun activities for the program.
The HS band program meets as a marching band from July to October and then transitions to concert band for the duration of the school year. Marching band is a required part of being part of the high school band program. Band camp is typically the last week in July to the first full week of August and there are weekly evening rehearsals throughout the remainder of the football season. The band participates in community parades throughout the year. Both the marching band and concert band participate in MSBOA festivals and solo and ensembles. MS Band begins in 6th grade with separate classes for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade bands.

"Studying music strengthens student’s academic performance. Studies have indicated that sequential, skill-building instruction in art and music integrated with the rest of the curriculum can greatly improve children’s performance in reading and math."
